Portugal. The Man

Portugal. The Man is an American rock band hailing from Wasilla, Alaska, that has been blending, bending, and redefining the sound of modern rock music since their formation in 2004. The group was started by lead vocalist and guitarist John Gourley, bassist Zachary Carothers, and they have since seen several membership changes while maintaining their core dynamic. They gained mainstream recognition for their cross-genre experimentation and unorthodox approach to music production, as well as for their hit single "Feel It Still," which won them the Grammy Award for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance in 2018.

Over the years, Portugal. The Man has maintained a fierce independent streak, frequently speaking out on social and political issues through their music and collaborations. Despite their success, they have retained a passionate underground following even as they've climbed the charts. With notable works that range from the psychedelic "In the Mountain in the Cloud" to the eclectic and bold "Evil Friends," they continue to evolve their sound. Their most recent releases, such as "Chris Black Changed My Life" and "Summer of Luv (feat. Unknown Mortal Orchestra)," demonstrate their ongoing commitment to weaving diverse sonic textures into their repertoire, as well as their embrace of remix culture, often reimagining their music through the lenses of other artists like Anyma, Bakermat, Chrome Sparks, and Chris Lake.
