South Park Mexican, born Carlos Coy on October 5, 1970, is an American rapper from Houston, Texas. He founded his own record label, Dope House Records, in 1995, and his music is often characterized by its fusion of hip-hop with Latin influences, reflecting his Hispanic heritage. SPM's career gained traction with the release of his third album, "Third Wish to Rock the World," which included the hit single "High So High." His 2000 album, "The Purity Album," continued his rise in the underground rap scene with its raw, gritty narratives that touched on life in the barrio, societal issues, and street culture.
Despite his success, South Park Mexican's career came to a controversial halt when he was convicted of aggravated sexual assault of a child in 2002. Incarcerated since then, his music output continued as he managed to release a series of albums from behind bars. Notable releases including "The Son of Norma" and "The Devil's Mansion" feature reflective and personal lyrics, providing insight into his mindset and experiences. His fan base remains loyal, and his influence in the Texas hip-hop scene is undeniable, contributing to the broader discussion of the intersections of music, culture, and personal conduct.
