Yakki Famirie

Yakki Famirie is a Dutch kaseko band from Rotterdam, formed in 1987 as the successor to the Surinamese kaseko orchestra Latinos. The group's early years were led by Dennis Tiendari, who served as the singer, founder, and band leader. Yakki Famirie's music blends traditional Surinamese styles like aleke and kaseko with influences from Latin, kawina, and winti. This unique blend resulted in lively dance music that prominently features horn sections and skratjie (bass drum) rhythms, along with distinctive Acuaan call-and-response singing.

Over the years, Yakki Famirie has released several albums, including "Gowtu" in 1999, which was produced by the Cuban bandleader Manolito Simonet and featured guest appearances by artists like Denise Jannah and Gerardo Rosales. Another notable release is "Back In Time: Asentele" in 2008. The band has performed at significant festivals such as the North Sea Jazz Festival and the Kwaku Festival in Amsterdam. Yakki Famirie continues to be celebrated for its energetic performances and contributions to the kaseko genre.
