Izumi Kobayashi, often known as "Mimi," is a renowned Japanese singer-songwriter, keyboardist, and music producer born on March 25, 1957, in Funabashi, Chiba Prefecture. She graduated from the Tokyo College of Music with a focus on piano. Kobayashi's career spans over four decades, beginning in the late 1970s. She is famous for her work with the band Izumi Kobayashi & Flying Mimi Band, which blended funk and disco elements. The band evolved from an earlier group, and some of its members went on to form the fourth world project Mariah. Kobayashi has also been involved in various other projects, including anime music, notably contributing themes to the series *Urusei Yatsura*. Her solo work, such as *Coconuts High* and *Natsu Nuts Natsu*, combines dance-pop with Latin and Caribbean influences. Notably, she collaborated with Depeche Mode on their album *Violator* while residing in London.
