The Nuns are a pioneering punk rock and new wave band from San Francisco, formed in 1975 by Jeff Olener and Alejandro Escovedo. Initially, the band was part of a project to create a film about a fictional rock singer. However, the project evolved into a real band, with Jennifer Miro joining as a vocalist and keyboardist. The Nuns quickly became a central figure in the Bay Area punk scene, known for their intense performances and theatrical flair. They played historic shows, including the first punk concert at the Mabuhay Gardens in 1976.
Alejandro Escovedo left the band before their debut album, which was released in 1980. Despite the lineup changes, Jennifer Miro kept the band active over the years, exploring different styles that eventually included gothic and fetishistic themes. The Nuns have released several albums, including "Desperate Children," "4 Days in a Motel Room," and "New York Vampires," reflecting their evolution from punk to a more gothic sound. Jennifer Miro passed away in 2011, but her legacy continues through the band's enduring influence on the punk and new wave genres.
