Tormod Dalen

Tormod Dalen is a renowned Norwegian cellist, specializing in historical performance practices with a repertoire that spans from the 16th to the early 19th centuries. He is based in Paris and performs as a soloist, chamber musician, and continuo player across Europe, the Americas, Asia, and the Middle East. Dalen is the principal cellist of several French baroque ensembles, including Le Concert Spirituel and Les Ambassadeurs – La Grande Ecurie, and he also collaborates with other notable ensembles like Le Poème Harmonique and Arte dei Suonatori. Additionally, he serves as the artistic director of the ensemble Ritratto dell’Amore.

Tormod Dalen earned his PhD in 2014 from the Norwegian Academy of Music, focusing on the relationship between Baroque dance and the Cello Suites of J.S. Bach. He has recorded the complete Bach Cello Suites for the French label Exordium. Dalen is also a professor of Baroque Cello at the Conservatoire National Régional de Versailles and has taught at various European institutions. His educational and performance expertise have led to a deep understanding of historical music styles, making him a celebrated figure in the early music scene.
