Terje Mikkelsen

Terje Wik Mikkelsen is a renowned Norwegian conductor born on April 6, 1957, in Drøbak, just south of Oslo. He studied at the Norwegian Academy of Music before earning his orchestral conducting diploma at the Sibelius Academy in Helsinki under the guidance of Professor Jorma Panula. He further honed his craft through close collaboration with the esteemed conductor Mariss Jansons in Oslo and St. Petersburg. Over his career, Mikkelsen has led many prominent orchestras across Europe and Asia, including serving as Chief Conductor of the Ukrainian State Symphony Orchestra and the Latvian National Symphony Orchestra, as well as Principal Conductor of the Shanghai Symphony Orchestra. His conducting style is praised for being immensely compelling and masterly in balancing sound and texture, making him a respected figure in the classical music world.
