Chanticleer

Chanticleer is an all-male vocal ensemble known for its exquisite blend and impeccable precision. Named after the "clear-singing" rooster in Geoffrey Chaucer's "The Canterbury Tales," Chanticleer was founded in 1978 by tenor Louis Botto in San Francisco. Since its inception, the group has developed a reputation for its expansive repertoire, encompassing music ranging from Renaissance polyphony to contemporary compositions, including jazz, gospel, and popular genres. The ensemble typically features twelve to fourteen voices, covering a vocal range from countertenor to bass. They have been lauded for their interpretation of Renaissance music, but they are equally adept at a vast array of styles, which has led to a wide and devoted international following.

Over the decades, Chanticleer has released numerous critically acclaimed recordings, with their stylish performances captured on albums like "Chanticleer sings Christmas," "Then and There, Here and Now," and their moving live collection "Our Favorite Carols (Live)." They have been recognized with multiple awards, including two Grammy Awards, and they command an impressive touring schedule, bringing their vocal artistry to audiences around the world. Their educational outreach is also a cornerstone of their organization, demonstrating a commitment to fostering the next generation of singers and musicians. Through the power and purity of the human voice, Chanticleer continues to enchant listeners with performances that explore the vast choral landscape with both technical mastery and a unique depth of emotion.
