Piia Komsi

Piia Komsi is a Finnish soprano coloratura and cellist, born on January 9, 1967, in Kokkola, Finland. Recognized internationally for her remarkable vocal agility and musical versatility, she has built a career spanning classical to contemporary music, performing with leading orchestras and opera houses across the globe. Komsi made a notable debut with the New York Philharmonic Orchestra in April 2017 and is admired for her wide-ranging repertoire, which stretches from early music to the newest commissioned works.

Her musical journey began at age six at the Keski-Pohjanmaa Music Institute. She later pursued studies at the Sibelius Academy, earning diplomas in both cello (1988) and singing (2002) and continuing her education at Yale University. As a sought-after soloist, she also collaborates frequently with her twin sister, soprano Anu Komsi, and is celebrated for her expressive performances and innovative approach to vocal technique.
