Oi Polloi

Oi Polloi is an anarcho-punk band hailing from Edinburgh, Scotland, initially formed in 1981. Symbolizing the fusion of punk ethos with political activism, the group's name itself is a nod to the Greek term for "the common people," suggesting their commitment to addressing social and environmental injustices through their music. Known for their steadfast DIY approach, Oi Polloi have been vocal opponents of fascism, sexism, homophobia, capitalism, and have championed causes such as animal rights and the promotion of the Scottish Gaelic language.

Over the years, the band's lineup has seen numerous changes, with vocalist Deek Allen as the mainstay member uniting the evolving collective. Musically, Oi Polloi blend the raw energy of punk with elements of hardcore, street punk, and Oi!, delivering their messages with a blend of belligerence and wit. Among their recent releases, "Blame It on the System" is a searing critique of societal structures, while "Donald Trump - Fuck You!" makes no secret of their disdain for the controversial political figure. "Fuaim Catha," which translates to "battle noise" in Scottish Gaelic, stands as a testament to the band's deep connection with their cultural roots and their ongoing fight against oppression through the power of music. Notorious for pulling no punches in their lyrical content, Oi Polloi remain a significant and unapologetic force in the anarcho-punk landscape.
