Badfinger

Badfinger was a Welsh rock band that rose to prominence in the late 1960s and early 1970s. Originally known as The Iveys, they were the first group signed to the Beatles' Apple label, which saw their transformation into Badfinger. Comprising Pete Ham, Tom Evans, Mike Gibbins, and Joey Molland (who replaced original guitarist Ron Griffiths), the band is often hailed as one of the earliest representatives of the power pop genre, harmonizing catchy songwriting with the energetic beats of rock and roll. Their breakout hit "Come & Get It," written and produced by Paul McCartney, set the course for a series of successful singles, including the emotive ballad "Without You," which later became an international hit for Harry Nilsson and, decades later, for Mariah Carey.

Tragically, Badfinger's story was marred by legal battles and financial mismanagement, which took a toll on the band's stability and success. In 1975, the heart-wrenching suicide of Pete Ham was followed by Tom Evans in 1983, their untimely deaths contributing to the band's melancholic lore. Despite the misfortunes, Badfinger's music has endured, influencing generations of musicians and resonating with fans worldwide. Albums like "No Dice," "Straight Up," and "Wish You Were Here" showcased their sublime melodic gifts and remain timeless classics. The band, with surviving member Joey Molland, has continued to perform and record, ensuring the legacy of Badfinger's music lives on, as captured in their recent compilations like "No Matter What - Revisiting the Hits" and the live performance album "Day After Day: Live."
