Stochelo Rosenberg, born on February 19, 1968, in Helmond, Netherlands, is a virtuoso guitarist renowned for his mastery of gypsy jazz. As a leading figure in the genre, he is best known as the frontman of the Rosenberg Trio, consisting of his relatives Nonnie (bass) and Nous'che (rhythm guitar). Stochelo began playing the guitar at a remarkably young age, with his talent blossoming within a Sinti (Manouche-Romani) community that highly valued musical expression. His style is characterized by a fluid technique and expressive vibrato, deeply rooted in the legacy of gypsy jazz's founding father, Django Reinhardt.
Throughout his celebrated career, Stochelo has carried the torch of the Reinhardt tradition into new arenas, collaborating with other artists to produce vibrant, innovative works, while also preserving the authentic sound of gypsy jazz. His albums, including "Gypsy Today" and "Symphonic Django - The World Première Recording," showcase his ability to transcend traditional boundaries, blending classical influences with the spirited heart of gypsy swing. His live performances, such as those captured in "Kings of Strings: Live in Belgrade," and his educational contributions to the genre, have firmly established him as one of the preeminent ambassadors of gypsy jazz to audiences worldwide.
