Dan Schutte

Dan Schutte is a well-known American composer of contemporary Catholic liturgical music. He first rose to prominence in the 1970s as a founding member of the St. Louis Jesuits, a group of young seminarians who helped renew Catholic worship music through their use of modern melodies and Scripture-based lyrics. Some of his most beloved compositions from that era include "Here I Am, Lord," "City of God," and "Sing a New Song," which continue to be sung in churches around the world today.

Schutte has since developed a successful solo career, creating music that blends deep theological reflection with accessibility for congregational singing. His more recent works include collections like Love and Grace and Walking the Sacred Path, as well as bilingual settings such as Mass of Christ the Savior and its Spanish-language version, Misa Cristo Salvador. Known for his melodic sensitivity and spiritual depth, Schutte's music has become a staple in Catholic liturgy and personal devotion alike.
