Eyedea & Abilities

Eyedea & Abilities was a revered underground hip-hop duo known for their dynamic blend of insightful lyricism and inventive turntablism. Hailing from Saint Paul, Minnesota, the group consisted of rapper Eyedea (Michael Larsen) and DJ Abilities (Gregory Keltgen). The duo first garnered attention in the late '90s and early 2000s, standing out in the underground scene with their philosophical approach to rap and their technical prowess on the wheels of steel.

Their debut album, "First Born," released in 2001, set the stage for their introspective and experimental style, leading to a dedicated following. The follow-up "E&A" in 2004 showcased a progression in their sound, fusing rapid-fire verses with complex scratching and mixing techniques, solidifying their status in the hip-hop community. "By The Throat," released in 2009, took a more aggressive and rock-influenced path, reflecting the duo's restless creative spirit and further pushing the boundaries of their genre. The track "Grand's Sixth Sense" is notable for being on their earlier album "First Born." Tragically, Eyedea passed away in 2010, but the legacy of Eyedea & Abilities lives on through their influential recordings and the impact they had on the evolution of underground hip-hop.
