The Lazy Cowgirls

The Lazy Cowgirls were a fiery and influential punk rock band that emerged from Los Angeles in the early 1980s. Rooted in the raw energy of '70s punk and garage rock, their sound fused the aggressive, no-frills attitude of acts like The Stooges and the Ramones with a distinctly midwestern sensibility—thanks in large part to frontman Pat Todd, who originally hailed from Indiana. Known for their high-octane live shows and relentless DIY ethic, the Lazy Cowgirls became underground staples, releasing a string of critical favorites through indie labels like Bomp! and Sympathy for the Record Industry.

Across their career, albums like Ragged Soul and A Little Sex and Death exemplified their hard-driving, roots-inflected punk rock. Though they never broke into the mainstream, they built a loyal cult following and are often cited as unsung heroes of the American punk underground. After the Lazy Cowgirls disbanded in the early 2000s, Pat Todd went on to form Pat Todd & The Rankoutsiders, continuing to carry the torch for stripped-down, heartfelt rock ‘n’ roll.
