Ningen Isu

Ningen Isu, which translates to "The Human Chair," is a Japanese hard rock band that has carved a unique niche in the music world with their distinct blend of heavy metal, traditional Japanese storytelling, and literary influences. Formed in 1987 in Hirosaki, Japan, by Shinji Wajima (guitar and vocals), Kenichi Suzuki (bass and vocals), and a succession of drummers until Nobu Nakajima took over the role in 2004, the band's name and much of its thematic content are inspired by the works of Edogawa Ranpo and other authors of Japanese literature.

Over the decades, Ningen Isu has released a prolific catalog that showcases their ability to blend heavy guitar riffing with the storytelling ethos of traditional Japanese folklore and horror stories, underpinned by a deep appreciation for Western hard rock and metal acts like Black Sabbath and Led Zeppelin. Some of their recent releases include studio albums like "色即是空" (Shikisokuzekuu), "苦楽" (Kuraku), and "異次元からの咆哮" (Ijigen kara no Houkou), signifying their continued relevance and experimental spirit in the rock genre. Notably, their 30th Anniversary collection, "人間椅子名作選 三十周年記念ベスト盤" (Ningen Isu Meisakusen Sanjuushuunen Kinen Best Album), offers both new listeners and long-time fans a comprehensive overview of their vast musical landscape. Their commitment to storytelling through music, combined with their unmistakably heavy sound, continues to earn them a devoted following both in Japan and internationally.
