Jr. Thomas

Jr. Thomas, also known as Thomas McDowall, is a Minnesota-born singer, songwriter, and producer deeply influenced by classic Jamaican reggae, soul, and ’70s singer-songwriter sounds. He first gained attention as a member of Minneapolis-based reggae and ska outfit The Dropsteppers before moving to Los Angeles to form Jr. Thomas & The Volcanos. The band is celebrated for its authentic reggae revival style, drawing inspiration from the golden era of Jamaican music, particularly the rocksteady period of the mid-1960s. Their sophomore album, *Rockstone*, was praised for its honest tribute to roots reggae and soul. More recently, Jr. Thomas has collaborated with Philly’s Eraserhood Sound to release *Jr. Thomas in the Eraserhood*, an album recorded in Questlove’s former studio that blends classic soul, funk, and disco influences while addressing personal themes such as love, addiction, and growth with maturity and heartfelt storytelling.

His recent work includes songs like *Life of the Party*, *Never Be Another*, *By Your Side*, and *Can't Leave You Alone*, showcasing a mix of groove-laden, sunshine-ready tracks and introspective bluesy moments. Jr. Thomas’s music reflects both a respect for traditional sounds and a fresh, contemporary vibe that connects with a new generation of soul and reggae fans.
