Blåmann Blåmann

Blåmann Blåmann is a Norwegian contemporary folk band that gained attention around the late 1990s and early 2000s. The band, led by Odd Nordstoga along with his friends from Vinje such as guitarist Asgaut H. Bakken, flutist Silje Hegg, and harding fiddle virtuoso Lars Underdal, released their self-titled album in 2001. Their music blends traditional Norwegian folk elements with contemporary folk and folk rock influences, featuring instruments like the hardingfele (a traditional Norwegian fiddle), flute, guitar, and accordion, sometimes accompanied by percussion and bass. The album was well-received and remains iconic in Norwegian folk music circles, recently remastered and reissued to introduce it to new audiences.

Though the band only existed for about five years and is no longer active, Blåmann Blåmann made a notable impact, particularly in Norway and Germany, where they became known partly through their use in Norwegian tourism adverts. Their sound is both rooted in tradition and adventurous with contemporary folk styles, making their album a valued listen for fans of Nordic folk music.
