Sergio Assad

Sergio Assad is a Brazilian guitarist, composer, and arranger widely celebrated for his contributions to classical guitar music, both as a solo artist and as half of the renowned Assad Brothers guitar duo with his brother Odair Assad. Born in São João da Boa Vista, Brazil, in 1952, Sergio showed musical promise from a young age and studied guitar under Monina Távora, a student of Andrés Segovia. He has since become known for his intricate compositions and arrangements that blend classical, Latin, and Brazilian influences.

Over the years, Sergio has composed a wide range of works for solo guitar, guitar duos, and chamber ensembles, earning acclaim for his creativity and technical artistry. His works are frequently performed by leading musicians around the world, and he has collaborated with a variety of celebrated artists, including Yo-Yo Ma, Nadja Salerno-Sonnenberg, and the Turtle Island Quartet. Whether performing or composing, Sergio Assad continues to be a dynamic force in the world of contemporary classical guitar.
