A Lot Like Birds was an American post-hardcore band that formed in Sacramento, California, in 2009. Known for their intricate instrumentals and emotive, complex lyrical content, the band traversed through various sub-genres of rock including progressive rock, experimental rock, and screamo. Their musical journey began with the release of their debut album "Plan B" in 2009, which set the initial framework for their multi-layered soundscapes.
Over the years, A Lot Like Birds evolved in both style and lineup, experiencing departures that influenced the direction of their music. With the release of "Conversation Piece" in 2011, the group cemented their place in the post-hardcore scene, showcasing a blend of aggressive riffs interwoven with melodic interludes. This was followed by the critically acclaimed album "No Place" in 2013, an intensely conceptual record that explored the themes of a haunted home. Diverging from their previous sound, their 2017 release "DIVISI" marked a shift towards a softer, more introspective approach—a change that was met with mixed reactions from fans but showcased their willingness to evolve and challenge genre boundaries. In addition to their studio albums, the band also released instrumental versions of their work, such as "No Place (Instrumental)" and "DIVISI (Instrumental)," as well as a collection of "DIVISI Remixes," offering a new perspective on their existing material. Despite their creativity and dedicated fanbase, A Lot Like Birds disbanded in early 2018, leaving behind a legacy of innovation within the post-hardcore scene.
