Helmut Melchert

Helmut Melchert is a German bass-baritone who has performed in opera houses and concert halls around the world. He is particularly known for his interpretations of the works of Richard Wagner, Gustav Mahler, and Arnold Schoenberg. Melchert has also recorded extensively, and his discography includes a number of award-winning recordings.

Melchert was born in Munich, Germany, in 1962. He studied singing at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater München and made his professional debut in 1987. He quickly gained a reputation as one of the most promising young singers in Germany, and he soon began to appear in major opera houses throughout Europe. In 1995, he made his debut at the Metropolitan Opera in New York City, and he has since become a regular guest artist at the company.
