Howard Ashman was a brilliant lyricist and playwright who left an indelible mark on the world of musical theater. Born in Baltimore, Maryland, in 1950, Ashman's love for storytelling and music was evident from a young age. He honed his craft at the BMI Lehman Engel Musical Theatre Workshop and later collaborated with composer Alan Menken on several iconic Disney films, including "The Little Mermaid," "Beauty and the Beast," and "Aladdin." Ashman's witty and emotionally resonant lyrics brought these beloved characters to life, earning him two Academy Awards and a posthumous Tony Award. Sadly, Ashman passed away in 1991 at the age of 40 due to complications from AIDS, but his legacy continues to inspire and entertain audiences worldwide.
