Antipop Consortium

Antipop Consortium is an experimental hip-hop group known for pushing the boundaries of genre and sound. Formed in the late 1990s in New York City, the core lineup includes Beans, High Priest, M. Sayyid, and producer Earl Blaize. They're celebrated for their avant-garde approach, combining abstract lyricism with glitchy, electronic-influenced beats that set them apart from the mainstream hip-hop scene.

The group first gained attention with their early albums like Tragic Epilogue and the critically acclaimed Arrhythmia, which showcased their futuristic sound and cerebral flow. After a brief hiatus beginning in 2002, they reunited in 2007 and returned with the album Fluorescent Black in 2009, reaffirming their place in the underground hip-hop world. Antipop Consortium has also collaborated with avant-jazz pianist Matthew Shipp, further highlighting their multi-genre sensibility and fearless experimentation.
