Hetty Plümacher

Hetty Plümacher was a renowned German operatic singer, born on December 3, 1919, in Solingen. She studied voice at the Musikhochschule Köln and began her career with a debut in Oslo in 1943. Plümacher was a long-term member of the Staatstheater Stuttgart from 1946 to 1976, where she performed a wide range of roles, initially focusing on Mozart and Richard Strauss, and later expanding to dramatic roles in Wagner operas. She was also a sought-after concert soloist, known for her performances in Bach's Passions, Handel's oratorios, and Verdi's Requiem. Plümacher appeared at prestigious festivals like Salzburg and Bayreuth, and she sang in major opera houses across Europe. After retiring from the stage, she taught as a professor at the Mozarteum in Salzburg and the Staatliche Hochschule für Musik und Darstellende Kunst Stuttgart. She passed away on June 3, 2005, in Steinenbronn.

Plümacher's extensive discography includes notable recordings such as Richard Strauss's *Die schweigsame Frau*, Wagner's *Parsifal* and *Der Ring des Nibelungen*, and Mozart's *Die Zauberflöte*.
