Ernest Schelling was an American pianist, composer, and conductor who lived from 1876 to 1939. He was known for his virtuosic piano playing and his compositions, which often incorporated elements of Impressionism and Romanticism. Schelling studied piano with his mother and later with Theodor Leschetizky in Vienna. He made his debut as a concert pianist at the age of 17 and quickly gained a reputation as one of the leading pianists of his generation. Schelling also composed a number of works for piano, orchestra, and voice, including the "Symphonic Legend" and the "Concerto for Piano and Orchestra." He was also a successful conductor, leading the New York Philharmonic and the Boston Symphony Orchestra.
