Mitochondrial Sun

Mitochondrial Sun is the solo project of Niklas Sundin, best known as the guitarist and main songwriter for the melodic death metal pioneers Dark Tranquillity. While Dark Tranquillity leans heavily on melody and atmosphere, Mitochondrial Sun dives even deeper into ambient and electronic soundscapes. Think less distorted guitars and growls, and more cosmic textures, pulsating rhythms, and a sense of vast, interstellar space. The project allows Sundin to explore different facets of his creativity, drawing inspiration from science fiction, astronomy, and the mysteries of the universe.

Launched in 2019 with the self-titled album, Mitochondrial Sun has been steadily releasing a stream of captivating works, including the "Sju Pulsarer" series and the more recent "Machine Dialectics." Each release further refines Sundin's distinctive blend of ambient, techno, and drone, creating immersive sonic journeys that are both thought-provoking and deeply relaxing.
