The Modernettes were a punk rock band that emerged from Vancouver, British Columbia, in the late 1970s, becoming one of the key acts in the city's early punk scene. Fronted by singer and guitarist Buck Cherry (real name John Armstrong), the band also featured bassist Mary Jo Kopechne and drummer Jughead. Known for their catchy, energetic sound that blended punk attitude with pop sensibilities, the Modernettes quickly gained a local following with songs like "Barbra" and "Teen City."
Their debut EP, Teen City, released in 1980, helped cement their place in Canadian punk history, followed by the full-length album Gone... But Not Forgiven. The band's music captured the youthful energy and DIY spirit of the era, and even after their initial run in the early '80s, the Modernettes have remained cult favorites among punk fans. Later reissues and compilations like View From The Bottom have introduced their work to new listeners, preserving their legacy as one of Vancouver's true punk pioneers.
