The Hypnotic Brass Ensemble is an inimitable collective born from the loins of Chicago jazz royalty. Comprised of eight brothers, all sons of the jazz trumpeter and bandleader Phil Cohran, the ensemble has forged its path since the late 1990s, bringing a unique fusion of jazz, funk, hip-hop, and soul to stages and studio recordings. Growing up in a musically enriched environment, they were trained to play together as the Phil Cohran Youth Ensemble, developing their tight musicianship and indomitable bond from a very young age.
Through albums like "BAD BOYS OF JAZZ," "Book of Sound," and "Fly: The Customs Prelude," as well as a slew of spellbinding singles such as "Space" and "Detroit Red," the Ensemble has crafted a distinct sound marked by blistering brass, syncopated rhythms, and a definitively hip-hop inflection. Their reputation for electrifying live performances has allowed them to grace the stages worldwide and collaborate with a wide array of artists, including the poetic reworking of Richard Youngs’ ‘Sapphie’ on "This is a Mindfulness Drill." Their 2020 single "Soon It Will Be Fire," featuring the ethereal vocals of Moses Sumney, showcases the depth and experimental nature of their sound, which is further enhanced by team-ups with artists like Perfume Genius on "A Fullness Of Light In Your Soul." Constantly evolving and pushing the boundaries of genre, Hypnotic Brass Ensemble continues to captivate audiences with their energetic blend of music that's both rooted in a rich legacy and eagerly reaches for uncharted sonic territories.
