US Marine Band

The United States Marine Band, also known as "The President's Own," holds a prestigious place in American history and music. Established by an Act of Congress on July 11, 1798, it is America’s oldest continuously active professional musical organization. Its primary mission is to provide music for the President of the United States and the Commandant of the Marine Corps. With a legacy spanning over two centuries, the band has played at inaugurations, state dinners, and other official functions with unparalleled distinction.

The Marine Band's discography is a testament to the rich musical heritage of the United States, especially through its dedication to the works of John Philip Sousa, who served as its 17th Director. Among their releases are thematic collections such as "The Heritage of John Philip Sousa" series, which showcase the patriotic and military marches synonymous with American culture and history. Additionally, the ensemble pays homage to its accomplished members with solo releases highlighting their virtuosity, such as "Art Lehman Euphonium Solos" and "Charles Erwin Cornet Solos." The "Works of William F. Santelmann" and other recordings detail the contributions of past directors and arrangers, providing a window into the evolution of military band music over the decades. Through their storied performances and recorded works, the US Marine Band continues to embody the excellence and discipline of the United States Marine Corps, contributing to its title as "The President's Own."
