Claudia Calderón is a talented Colombian pianist and composer, born in Palmira, Valle del Cauca, Colombia in 1959. She later moved to Venezuela in 1987, where she held teaching positions at several institutions, including the Simón Bolívar Conservatory and the Instituto Universitario de Estudios Musicales in Caracas. Calderón has studied extensively, graduating from the Musikhochschule in Hannover, Germany, and attending courses in Italy under notable figures like György Sándor. Her music often focuses on traditional Venezuelan and Colombian sources, blending folkloric elements with contemporary piano repertoire. She has recorded several albums, including "El Piano Llanero" and "Piano Xarocho," which showcase her unique blend of traditional and modern musical styles.
Claudia Calderón has also been involved in musicological research, particularly in Colombian and Venezuelan ethnic music. She has published papers and created transcriptions of Joropo harp music, setting a high standard in ethnomusicological studies. Calderón has toured extensively, performing solo and chamber music in various countries around the world. Currently, she resides in Yopal, Casanare province, Colombia.
