Stichting Opwekking

Stichting Opwekking isn’t a band or musician in the traditional sense, but a pioneering Dutch Christian foundation known for its massive influence on worship music in the Netherlands. Founded by Wiesje and Ben Hoekendijk and Peter and Else Vlug, Stichting Opwekking is especially famous for its yearly publication of the *Opwekkingsliederen* songbooks, which have grown to include hundreds of worship songs since the first edition in the late 1970s. The organization also hosts the annual Pinksterconferentie (Pentecost Conference), drawing tens of thousands of visitors, and supports worship events and collaboration with churches throughout the country.

What started as an initiative to fill the gap in contemporary worship music for Dutch churches has turned into a cultural powerhouse, shaping the sound of praise and worship for generations. Over the years, Stichting Opwekking’s songbooks have become a staple in both charismatic and traditional churches, with new songs added regularly and plenty of resources for worship leaders and congregations alike. The foundation also provides support to other Christian organizations and continues to inspire community and connection through music and faith.
