Lesiem is a musical project that emerged from Germany at the dawn of the 21st century, merging the grandiose elements of Gregorian chants with the modern dynamics of electronic and pop music to create a unique and enthralling sound. The project was founded in 1999 by producer Alex Wende, with vocals provided by soloists and the choir led by choir master Thomas Pflanz. The name "Lesiem" itself is derived from the Latin word 'lesiem', which is the second person plural imperative of 'letare', meaning "you (pl.) should enjoy".
Lesiem's music is characterized by its blend of mysticism with contemporary rhythms, creating an atmosphere that is both ancient and modern. The group rose to popularity with releases such as "Mystic Spirit Voices,” their debut album which was a significant hit particularly in the United States where it reached the top of the Billboard charts. Subsequently, they have released several more albums, each deepening their exploration into the spiritual and the sensual through music. "Auracle" continues this journey, while "Illumination" builds upon their signature sound with lush orchestration and evocative vocal performances. Their piece “Feuerwerksmedley (Kölner Lichter 2013)” showcases a live performance element, bringing a vibrant energy to their music. Although Lesiem is often classified under genres like world music or new-age, their sound transcends these labels, inviting listeners to a transcultural experience through their rich sonic landscapes.
