Studio Shap Shap

Studio Shap Shap is a dynamic six-member musical group from Niamey, Niger, formed in 2015. The band blends traditional Sahelian sounds with modern electro and blues influences, crafting a unique style they call "blues tradi-electro." Their music features traditional instruments like the Douma (goat skin percussion), kalangou (drum), Komsa (a camel skin string instrument), and Kindé (traditional harp), combined with funky electronic beats and samples from urban and natural environments. Some of the members, including bass player Arobasse and mola and komsa player Ousselni, previously played in the well-regarded Jazz-Pop band Mamar Kassey. Studio Shap Shap’s sound is a vibrant fusion that pays homage to their cultural roots while pushing musical boundaries.

The band’s debut album, *Chateau 1*, was self-produced and recorded live in the open air, capturing the sounds of Niamey city life along with their music. Since then, they have toured Europe and gained recognition for blending traditional and experimental music forms. Their more recent album *Le Monde Moderne* continues to showcase their innovative approach and deep connection to their Nigerien heritage.
