Burning Airlines

Burning Airlines was an American post-hardcore band that emerged from the ashes of Jawbox, a seminal figure in the 90s alternative rock scene. Formed in 1997 in Washington, D.C., the band was led by frontman and guitarist J. Robbins, who had been the driving force behind Jawbox, alongside bassist Bill Barbot and drummer Peter Moffett. With a name inspired by a Brian Eno song, Burning Airlines quickly distinguished themselves within the post-hardcore landscape with their intricate guitar work, off-kilter rhythms, and Robbins' compelling vocal delivery.

The band released their debut album, "Mission: Control!" in 1999, which garnered critical acclaim for its innovative approach and astute lyrics. The follow-up album, "Identikit," arrived in 2001, showcasing the band's evolution toward a more textured and nuanced sound but maintaining their raw energy and thought-provoking lyricism. Burning Airlines' discography also includes a notable split EP with emo pioneers Braid, and despite their relatively short existence, they left a lasting impact on the alternative and post-hardcore scenes. Their final offering before disbanding in 2002 was "The Deluxe War Baby," a solid reinforcement of their significance in the genre. While never achieving mainstream success, Burning Airlines continues to be revered by fans and musicians alike for their innovation and the legacy they left in their wake.
