Wild Beasts were an indie rock band hailing from Kendal, England, formed in 2002. The band consisted of Hayden Thorpe (vocals, guitar, keys), Ben Little (guitar), Tom Fleming (bass, vocals), and Chris Talbot (drums). They were known for their distinctive sound that fused indie rock with an eclectic mix of art rock and chamber pop, and their evocative lyrical content, often exploring themes of love, lust, and masculinity. The band's music was marked by the notable counterpoint between Thorpe's falsetto and Fleming's baritone voices.
Over the course of their career, Wild Beasts released five critically acclaimed studio albums. Their debut album, "Limbo, Panto," introduced them as a band willing to defy indie rock conventions, but it was their follow-up, "Two Dancers," that earned them a Mercury Prize nomination and cemented their status as one of the UK's most innovative bands. Their subsequent albums, including "Smother," "Present Tense," and "Boy King," continued to showcase their growth and willingness to experiment with both sound and subject matter. "Boy King" was particularly noted for its heavier, more electronic direction. Despite their success, or perhaps because they were always evolving, Wild Beasts announced their disbandment in 2017, releasing "Last Night All My Dreams Came True," a live studio album of their most beloved tracks, as a farewell to their fans. The band's work remains a high-water mark for creativity and experimentation in indie music, with a rich discography that continues to challenge and inspire new listeners.
