Istvan Ella

István Ella is a Hungarian musician known for his expertise in organ music. Born on January 8, 1947, in Veresegyház, Hungary, Ella studied organ under Ferenc Gergely and choir-conducting under Zoltán Vásárhelyi. He is recognized for his achievements in international organ competitions, including winning first prize at the Anton Bruckner International Organ Competition in Linz (1974) and the J. S. Bach International Organ Competition in Bruges (1976). Ella also received a Liszt Ferenc Prize in 1999 and was awarded the Knight's Cross of the Hungarian Republic in 2007. His notable performances and recordings span a wide range of organ repertoire, showcasing his versatility.

Ella has appeared in both musical and acting roles, notably in the 1975 TV movie "Bach Arnstadtban," where he performed as Johann Ernst Bach and worked in the music department.
