Bruno Maurice is a French accordionist and composer known for his unique and experimental approach to the instrument. Born on January 21, 1970, in Châtellerault, France, he began playing accordion at the age of six and dedicated himself to music by age ten. Maurice combines traditional musette styles with orchestral and avant-garde influences, creating an expressive and intimate sound that has revitalized the accordion's role in contemporary music. He is also a composer of concertos for accordion and string orchestra, including works like "Cri de Lame" and "Aquarius," which often explore deep, emotional themes and innovative musical gestures.
Maurice studied musicology and trained under notable teachers, including the Ukrainian accordion master Vladimir Besfamilnov, from whom he received a rare instrument named "Appassionata." Besides performing, he teaches at several institutions such as the Conservatoire de Bordeaux and the Pôle Supérieur de Bordeaux Aquitaine, sharing his expertise worldwide through master classes. His collaborations include improvisatory duets with clarinetist Jacques Di Donato, and he continues to explore new musical boundaries through composition, performance, and teaching.
