Raul Barboza

Raúl Barboza is an Argentine musician acclaimed for his masterful accordion playing and his role as an ambassador of Chamamé, a traditional music genre originating from the northeastern region of Argentina. Born on January 23, 1938, in the rural town of Corrientes, Barboza was immersed in the world of music from a young age, inspired by his father, who was a violinist and composer. He began playing the accordion at the tender age of ten, and over the years, he forged his distinctive style—an exquisite fusion of Chamamé with elements of jazz, tango, and European folk music.

Having moved to Paris, France, in 1987, Barboza expanded his musical influence and audience, performing extensively throughout Europe and imprinting his cultural heritage onto the world music scene. His discography has grown extensively, reflecting his prodigious output and the embrace of his innovative sound. Albums like "Obstinado (ensayo en dúo)" and "Souvenirs Panamericanos" showcase his virtuosity and depth, whether he's performing introspective duets or exploring the diverse soundscapes of the Americas. With "Detrás del Monte (Soundscape Version)," Barboza presents a rich, atmospheric context to his music, while tracks like "El Milongote" and "Toda una Vida Volviendo" illustrate his passionate connection to the rhythms of his home country. Live recordings, such as "Luz del Amanecer (Ao Vivo)" and "Pindo Hovy (Ao Vivo)," capture the immediacy and vibrancy of Barboza's performances, sealing his reputation as a consummate live performer as well as a studio musician.
