Ravi

Ravi, also known as Ravi Shankar Sharma or Bombay Ravi, was a prominent Indian music director born on March 3, 1926, in Delhi. Unlike some musicians who had formal training, Ravi was largely self-taught, learning music by listening to his father sing bhajans. His journey into music started humbly; he worked as an electrician and struggled initially when he moved to Bombay in 1950 to pursue a career in singing and music composition. He eventually found success composing music for Hindi and Malayalam films, becoming well known for his melodious film scores and compositions that resonated with audiences. Ravi's career spanned five decades, from the mid-1950s until 2005, earning him several Filmfare nominations and a respected place in the Indian film music industry. Some of his well-known songs include those from Hindi films and regional music projects.

This Ravi should not be confused with the legendary sitar maestro Pandit Ravi Shankar, who was a classical Indian musician instrumental in popularizing the sitar worldwide. The composer Ravi mentioned here is known specifically for his contributions to Indian cinema music.
