Burnt By The Sun emerged from the New Jersey metal scene in the late 1990s, creating a potent hybrid of hardcore punk and technical metal that resonated with fans of intense and cerebral heavy music. The band, formed in 1999, brought together veterans of the metal and hardcore scenes. Vocalist Michael Olender, guitarist John Adubato, drummer Dave Witte, known for his work with bands like Discordance Axis and Municipal Waste, and bassist Ted Patterson, created a sonic assault that was both innovative and visceral.
The group first made a splash with their self-titled EP, "Burnt By The Sun" in 2002, followed by their full-length debut, "Soundtrack to the Personal Revolution," in 2003. They continued to hone their craft with subsequent releases, including "The Perfect Is the Enemy of the Good" (2003), and the vehemently-praised "Live from the Relapse Contamination Festival" (2003), which captured the band's raw live energy. "Heart of Darkness" (2009) proved to be the band's final full-length album, followed by its deluxe version, showcasing the group at the peak of its creative powers. Despite not being active as a band in the years that followed, Burnt By The Sun's influence continues to be felt in the metal and hardcore scenes, as their brief but potent discography remains a testament to the ferocity and ingenuity of their musical vision.
