Whitechapel is an American deathcore band that was formed in 2006 in Knoxville, Tennessee. Named after the London district where the infamous Jack the Ripper murders occurred, the group swiftly gained a reputation for their brutally heavy music and themes filled with darkness and despair. The band was originally comprised of vocalist Phil Bozeman, guitarists Ben Savage, Alex Wade, and Zach Householder, bassist Gabe Crisp, and drummer Kevin Lane, who was later replaced by Ben Harclerode. Their sound is characterized by a three-guitar attack that provides a dense, crushing wall of sound, accompanied by Bozeman’s guttural vocals and the band’s use of breakdowns.

Over the years, Whitechapel has honed their art, releasing an array of albums that chart the progression of their heavy, yet dynamically varied musical style. Their seventh studio album, "The Valley" (2019), received critical acclaim for its deeply personal themes and exploration of Bozeman's difficult childhood, with tracks featuring more melody and clean singing than previous releases. The emotionally charged "Hickory Creek" showcased this shift and even prompted the band to release an acoustic version. Following up, their eighth album "Kin" (2021) continued to push their boundaries, incorporating a broader array of sonic textures while still delivering the band's signature brutality. Whitechapel’s artistry has not only established them as stalwarts in the deathcore genre but has also showcased their ability to evolve and broaden their musical horizons while maintaining their roots.
