The Blockheads

The Blockheads are an English rock and roll and new wave band, originally led by frontman Ian Dury as Ian Dury and the Blockheads. Formed in 1977, the band quickly established itself as a prominent musical group with a distinct blend of rock, funk, and punk, underlined by a streak of irreverent humor and social commentary in their lyrics. The band's members are known for their tight musicianship and were prominent figures in the London music scene throughout the late 1970s and 1980s.

Although they are often remembered for their seminal hit "Hit Me with Your Rhythm Stick," which reached number one in the UK Singles Chart in 1979, The Blockheads have continued making music well into the 21st century, navigating through the loss of Dury in 2000 with respect and resilience. Their post-2000 work includes a variety of albums and live recordings, such as "Staring Down The Barrel" (2009) and "Beyond the Call of Dury" (2017), which showcase their unwavering dedication to performing with the same energy and creativity as they did during their early days. The Blockheads' music remains influential and their live performances, often featuring a mix of their classic hits and new material, continue to draw in fans of all ages, solidifying their status as icons of British rock and new wave.
