Keane is an English rock band originating from Battle, East Sussex, that first formed in 1995. The line-up consists of vocalist Tom Chaplin, keyboardist Tim Rice-Oxley, drummer Richard Hughes, and bassist Jesse Quin who officially joined the band in 2011 after playing with them since 2007. Known for their distinctive composition style centred around the piano as the lead instrument rather than guitars, Keane has carved out a niche for themselves in the rock and alternative music scene.
The band achieved mainstream success with the release of their debut album, "Hopes and Fears" in 2004, which won them the Brit Award for Best British Album and was one of the best-selling albums in UK chart history. Keane's sound is noted for its emotionally charged lyrics and Rice-Oxley's hauntingly melodic piano work, a combination that has earned them numerous accolades and a devoted fan base. After a hiatus starting in 2013, the band made a comeback with "Cause and Effect" in 2019, a matured continuation of their evocative storytelling and melodic expertise. Through their career, they've maintained a strong live performance presence, documented in releases like "Live At Largo" and "Live In Asunción," while also giving fans a peek into their creative process with works like "Thread (Original Demo)" from the "Retroactive" EP series. With songs like "Somewhere Only We Know" and "Everybody's Changing," Keane has left an indelible mark on the landscape of British pop-rock.
