Rosso Porpora

RossoPorpora is an Italian vocal and instrumental ensemble dedicated to exploring and reviving Renaissance and Baroque music, with a special focus on the madrigal repertoire. Since 2011, under the direction of Walter Testolin, the group has been committed to a philological approach, carefully studying historical documents to perform music in a style faithful to its original period. They cover a wide spectrum of sacred and secular works, featuring composers like Monteverdi, Marenzio, Gesualdo, and others, and have gained critical acclaim for their recordings and performances at various Italian festivals.

The ensemble made a notable shift with their debut on the Arcana label with a Luca Marenzio album, earning awards and praise for their historically informed interpretations. Their subsequent release of Monteverdi’s *Il sesto libro de madrigali* has been heralded as a deeply immersive and moving performance of one of the most significant works of the 17th century madrigal tradition. Walter Testolin, who is also a singer, teacher, and specialist in Renaissance polyphonic vocal music, leads RossoPorpora with the goal of both artistic excellence and historical authenticity.
