Katie Yao Morgan

Katie Yao Morgan is a British-Chinese pianist who began her musical journey at the age of four and quickly established herself as a standout young talent. Early highlights include winning the ABRSM Sheila Mossman Memorial Prize in 2010 for the highest mark in the Grade 8 piano exam and receiving a Gold Award in 2011. She studied at the prestigious Yehudi Menuhin School under Marcel Baudet, and during her time there, she picked up a string of competition accolades—including second prize at the Pianist of the North Competition in 2011, a “Mention of Honour” at the International Piano Competition in Enschede (2014), and a Diplôme de JEUNE ESPOIR at the Adilia Alieva Competition in 2016. She’s known for lively performances at major venues like the Wigmore Hall and Muziekgebouw in the Netherlands, tackling everything from Mozart and Chopin to Schumann and Ravel. Outside music, Katie completed a bachelor’s in psychology at the Universiteit van Amsterdam and is currently studying for her master’s in Crime and Forensic Science at UCL.

Katie’s most recent project, *Echoes of the Orient* (Naxos World, 2025), is a debut album that puts her in the spotlight as both performer and co-composer. The album was written by her childhood piano teacher and mentor, Angeline Bell, but due to Bell’s health issues, Katie stepped in to bring the music to life—even contributing two of her own pieces to the collection. Inspired by memories of Malaysia, flora, fauna, and fairy tales, the album is both personal and vivid, and also features erhu player Xiao Wang on select tracks. Katie has been teaching piano since 2018, and her career keeps evolving with this exciting blend of classical training and new creative collaborations.
