Pierre Fontenelle

Pierre Fontenelle is a Belgian-American cellist known for his diverse and adventurous approach to music. Celebrated as a rising star in the Belgian classical music scene, Pierre has won several prestigious awards, including first prizes at the Breughel, Edmond Baert, and Buchet competitions. He has performed with notable ensembles like the Orchestre Philharmonique Royal de Liège and has held positions such as cello soloist at the Opéra Royal de Wallonie-Liège until 2022. Pierre is also a professor at IMEP in Namur, Belgium, and is the founder and artistic director of Concerts des Dames. His recent projects include the release of his album "Roots" and his work with Duo Kiasma, where he collaborates with accordionist Frin Wolter to blend classical and contemporary styles.

Pierre Fontenelle's musical journey began in Seattle before he moved to Europe for formal training. He has performed at venues across Europe and Asia and continues to explore various genres beyond classical music. His dedication to Belgian music earned him the 2024 FUGA Trophy from the Belgian Composers Union. Upcoming highlights include concert tours and premieres of works by contemporary composers. Pierre's creative vision is not only reflected in his solo performances but also in his collaborative projects, which often bridge different stylistic horizons.
