Sielun Veljet

Sielun Veljet (which translates to "Brothers of the Soul" in English) was a prominent Finnish rock band known for their avant-garde approach to music and raw, intense performances. They were formed in 1982 by vocalist Ismo Alanko, following the dissolution of his earlier band, Hassisen Kone. The original lineup included Alanko on guitar and vocals, Jukka Orma on guitar, Jouko Hohko on bass, and Alf Forsman on drums. They quickly gained a reputation for their energetic live shows and a sound that was both aggressive and eclectic, drawing on influences from post-punk, psychedelic rock, and even folk music.

Over the course of their career, Sielun Veljet released a string of albums and singles that left a lasting mark on the Finnish music scene before disbanding in 1991. Their music was characterized by its often surreal and poetic lyrics, combined with a raw musicality. Despite singing primarily in Finnish, their unique sound garnered them a following beyond their home country, leading to tours in Europe and even the United States. Following their initial breakup, the band has seen various reissues and live album releases such as the "Kansan Parissa" series, which documents live performances from the pinnacle of their career. Their enduring legacy continues to influence Finnish musicians and listeners alike, confirmed by their newer releases like the retrospective single "Hei Soturit" in 2022, which demonstrated their lasting appeal and the high regard in which they are still held.
