The Independents

The Independents are a horror-punk/ska band hailing from Florence, South Carolina, formed in 1992 by Evil Presly and Willy B. Inspired by a wide range of music styles—from the Ramones to Iron Maiden, and influenced by their love of horror and sci-fi movies—they crafted a unique sound blending punk energy with dark, horror-themed lyrics. Their early demos helped build a dedicated following along the East Coast, and their debut album *In for the Kill* was released in 1995. The band gained significant support from Joey Ramone, who managed them until his passing and even produced their 2001 album *Back from the Grave*. Over the years, The Independents have remained active, releasing albums such as *Do It Again* (2008) and *Into the Light* (2014), while continuing to tour widely with notable punk and ska bands.

Known for relentless touring and a DIY spirit, The Independents have shared stages with acts like The Misfits, Flogging Molly, Blink-182, and Mustard Plug. Despite setbacks like a serious van crash in 2004, they returned stronger and have maintained a loyal fanbase through their energetic live performances and steady stream of releases, including live albums and early demo compilations. The band’s commitment to playing the music they love, on their own terms, has kept them a beloved fixture in the punk and horror-punk scenes for over three decades.
