Nikos Veliotis

Nikos Veliotis is a Greek musician, composer, and cellist born on February 26, 1970, in Athens, Greece. Initially, he studied classical piano until the age of 16, after which he became involved in the Athens underground electronic music scene. He co-founded the group In Trance 95 with Alex Machairas in 1988. Veliotis took up the cello at the age of 21 and by the late 1990s, he was fully immersed in experimental music, both in sound and visual arts. He has collaborated with various artists, including Giannis Aggelakas and David Grubbs, and has been part of several groups such as Mohammad and Cranc. Veliotis is also known for his work in composing music for dance, theater, and films.

Veliotis has released several albums, including solo works like "β" and "Radial," and collaborations such as "The Harmless Dust" with David Grubbs. He is recognized for his innovative approach to music, including a notable performance where he turned his cello into powder during a live show. Veliotis has been involved in organizing the 2:13 festival of experimental music in Athens from 2000 to 2007. His diverse musical career spans from classical to experimental and electronic genres, showcasing his versatility as a musician and composer.
