Karel Boehlee is a renowned Dutch jazz pianist and composer. Born in 1960, he quickly became a standout in the Netherlands' jazz scene, known for his minimalist yet emotionally expressive playing style. Over the years, Boehlee has collaborated with prominent international jazz musicians like Toots Thielemans and Philip Catherine, as well as notable Dutch artists such as Toon Roos and Trijntje Oosterhuis. His music has gained significant popularity in Japan and Korea, where he frequently performs as a solo artist. Boehlee is also a principal subject teacher at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam.
Boehlee's career includes the founding of the Karel Boehlee Trio in 2003, along with bassist Hein van de Geyn and drummer Hans van Oosterhout. The trio has released several albums on the M&I records label. Recent collaborations include work with Boehlee Kiewiet De Jonge on projects like the "CITY LIGHTS" EP. His solo piano work, such as "Jazz at the Pinehill," showcases his deep understanding of jazz and his ability to craft beautiful, evocative pieces.
